DESCRIPTION:

This 4 hour course on Neurology will give veterinarians and veterinary technicians the most up to date knowledge to treat neurological conditions in small animals. The four topics covered include: Intervertebral disc disease: IVDD is the most common cause of vertebral column pain and myelopathies in dogs and also can occur in cats. Localizing, diagnosing, and managing intracranial disease: Intracranial neurolocalization to one of the four brain regions enables a streamlined approach to subsequent generation of differential diagnosis lists and treatment plans. Chronic seizure management: Epilepsy is a life-long disease that is also the most common neurological condition observed in dogs and cats. Vestibular dysfunction: Vestibular disease in dogs and cats spans from benign to serious conditions. Effective localization within the vestibular system is the first critical step in determining a patient's diagnosis.

Participants will learn from Susan Arnold, an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota. She is also a Diplomate American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology and Neurosurgery)

10:00 AM - 10:05 AM

Welcome (5 minutes)

Join the virtual conference and say hello to our amazing speaker.

10:05 AM - 10:55 AM

Intervertebral Disc Disease (50 minutes)

IVDD is the most common cause of vertebral column pain and myelopathies in dogs and also can occur in cats. This session will cover the most up-to-date information regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and management of canine IVDD, including the most recent ACVIM Consensus Statement guidelines.

10:55 AM - 11:00 AM

Q&A for Intervertebral Disc Disease (5 minutes)

11:00 AM - 11:50 AM

Localizing, Diagnosing, and Managing Intracranial Disease (50 minutes)

Intracranial neurolocalization to one of the four brain regions enables a streamlined approach to subsequent generation of differential diagnosis lists and treatment plans. This session will cover neurolocalization for intracranial localizations (prosencephalon, brainstem, vestibular system, and cerebellum) along with differential diagnoses and treatment plans for each localization.

11:50 AM - 11:55 AM

Q&A for Intracranial Disease (5 minutes)

11:55 AM - 12:05 PM

Break (10 minutes)

12:05 PM - 12:55 PM

Chronic Seizure Management (50 minutes)

Epilepsy is a life-long disease that is also the most common neurological condition observed in dogs and cats. This session will cover long-term management of epileptic patients, including drug selection, monitoring, and adjustments, as well as managing cluster seizures and other complicated cases.

12:55 PM - 1:00 PM

Q&A for Chronic Seizure Management (5 minutes)

1:00 PM - 1:50 PM

Vestibular Dysfunction (50 minutes)

Vestibular disease in dogs and cats spans from benign to serious conditions. Effective localization within the vestibular system is the first critical step in determining a patient’s diagnosis. This session will cover vestibular localization, differential diagnoses for each localization, as well as disease-specific and general management of patients with vestibular dysfunction.

1:50 PM - 1:55 PM

Q&A for Vestibular Dysfunction (5 minutes)
